We are an
Oregon law firm dedicated to representing victims of medical
malpractice in Oregon.
MAIN AREA OF PRACTICE
Our main area of practice is
obstetrical and birth injuries, particularly cases involving HIE
(Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy), cerebral palsy, brachial plexus
injuries and maternal and infant death resulting from
mismanagement of labor and delivery, uterine rupture following
VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) and PIH (Pregnancy Induced
Hypertension, also known as preeclampsia and toxemia).
Additional cases include injuries and death resulting from misuse
of forceps and vacuum extractor devices.
ADDITIONAL AREAS OF PRACTICE
In addition to obstetrical
and birth injuries, we also handle cases involving malpractice in
emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine and
orthopedic, neurologic and general surgery. Such cases
include failure to evaluate and diagnose myocardial infarction
(heart attack), pulmonary embolism, cancer, aneurism, tumor and
stroke and injuries and death resulting from surgical errors.
THE FIRM
 Richard
M. Rogers was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He
graduated from Northwestern School of Law in 1975 and has been a
solo practitioner since that time. His practice from 1975 through
1985 was devoted to criminal defense work. By the end of the 80s,
Rich had successfully switched the focus of his practice to
plaintiff’s product liability and medical malpractice
litigation. Today, Rich exclusively handles plaintiff’s
medical malpractice cases with a specialty in birth trauma
litigation. Outside of his practice, Rich enjoys music, reading,
traveling, snowboarding, windsurfing, and running, as well as
exploring the arts and cuisines of the Northwest. Rich is a member
of the Oregon State Bar, Oregon Trial Lawyers Association,
American Trial Lawyers Association and Birth Trauma Litigation
Group.
 Penny was born in Vancouver, Washington and
raised in the Portland area. She is the firm's senior trial
assistant and has worked in the legal field in Portland for 29
years. She originally specialized in labor law, workers'
compensation and general personal injury. For the last ten years,
she has worked exclusively in the area of plaintiff's medical
malpractice for the law firm of Richard M. Rogers, P.C.
Penny's responsibilities include managing our law firm, new client
intake, client and witness interviews, contact with our expert
witnesses for case reviews and trial preparation, attending
depositions and the trial of our cases. Penny is an active
member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America national
Birth Trauma Litigation Group. Penny has also volunteered her time
to help organize and implement statewide campaigns with the Oregon
Trial Lawyers Association, the Oregon Jury Project Foundation and
Oregonians for Insurance Reform to preserve victim's rights in
Oregon. Outside the office, Penny enjoys spending time with
her husband fishing, running, cycling, skiing, gardening, cooking,
entertaining and vacationing. She has three grown children and
grandchildren that she especially loves spending time with.
Karli Wersch was
born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She has been working in the
legal field for 9 years and has worked for Richard M. Rogers, P.C.
for 7 years. She began as the secretary/receptionist and now she
is our second trial assistant. She received an Associate of
Applied Science Legal Assistant degree in June 2002 and she is a
member of the American Trial Lawyers Association. Her duties
include requesting, reviewing and organizing medical records,
client intake, trial preparation, organization and case
maintenance, as well as office bookkeeping. Outside of the office
she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, running,
camping, gardening, reading and cooking.
Jennifer Wronski was born in Troy, Michigan. She began traveling to Portland in 1997 and relocated here in 2000. She joined our firm in March of 2004 as our receptionist and currently she is the legal secretary to associate Patrick L. Block.. She also is a student at Portland Community College where she is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Paralegal degree. As a legal secretary her responsibilities include preparing legal documents and correspondence, requesting, reviewing and organizing medical records, client intake, file organization and case maintenance as well as assisting in the daily affairs of the office. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her husband and step children traveling, playing disc golf, exploring the culinary arts and enjoying music, dance and drum corps..
Jason Wronski took over IT duties in August, 2000
and has since helped bring this office into the new millennium with new
technologies, high-tech litigation tools, and this web site.
